I never realised how much power there was in personal social media. When you post, repin, reblog, ect someone else’s words you show the world you support those thoughts and ideas. When you post a quote from any of the General Authorities, you set yourself a part and say you support or are willing to stand by those words. You show the world it is your belief and you want to share it.
Social media is a powerful tool to spread the word of the gospel. When you post something on the internet,, there is an opportunity for people all around the world to see what you posted. When they like or repost, they also show their support and belief in those words.
Social media spreads quickly like domino falling in a line. Even if only one person reposted you posts, that is still two people who see that message. maybe that person has more friends or followers than you, and three people repost the message. The first one of those three might have one repost, the second five, and the third two. That is now 13 people total who have said they are willing to stand by those words.
But perhaps one of those newer posters is a well known on social media and have hundreds of followers. Then maybe 56 people repost the message. And if those 56 people only have one repost each, that is still 125 people who have posted the same message.
And that message with continue to spread and reach more people in the same manner. The more who repost it, the more who will see it and add it to their own status. All this can happen in only a couple days.
And this all started with you.
However, the same does not happen only to gospel related posts, it can happen to any post. Even if a post, picture, or message is not wholesome, clean, or uplifting, then it can still repost like wild fire.
I believe this is a fulfillment of the prophecy that says the gospel will flood the earth.
Elder Bednar says:
The Lord is hastening His work, and it is no coincidence that these powerful communication innovations and inventions are occurring in the dispensation of the fullness of times. Social media channels are global tools that can personally and positively impact large numbers of individuals and families. And I believe the time has come for us as disciples of Christ to use these inspired tools appropriately and more effectively to testify of God the Eternal Father, His plan of happiness for His children, and His Son, Jesus Christ, as the Savior of the world; to proclaim the reality of the Restoration of the gospel in the latter days; and to accomplish the Lord’s work.
When you post or repost gospel messages you are hastening the work of the Lord.
Just as the Saviour can use this method to spread His word, Satan can as well, and just as quickly. When you post something which is questionable to church standards, whether it is an in appropriate movie add or anything belittling or less than holy, you show the world you support it and you want others to know about it.
Keeping this in mind I think the next time we tweet, blog, pin, post, or update a stauts, we will think twice about it. I’m not saying we should only post about scriptures or General Conference quotes, but ask yourself, “if I post this, what message will it send the world? Would Christ repost this? Will the world see me as one who reflects the light of Christ? Or will they see me as just another person in the world?”
That which uplifts and invites the spirit is of Christ. Be careful what you post on social media. Your words and opinions have more impact than you realise and they can spread quickly. Social media is not evil or of the devil, but it is an easily place to invite him and spread his work.
It can also be used to spread light and truth and the word of the gospel. It can spread Christ’s love and the spirit.
The chose is yours, but remember it all starts with just one post.
